How to create a Telegram channel. Step by step guide
Create a Telegram channel and prepare it for cross-posting.
How to set up
Open Telegram
Launch the Telegram app on your phone or computer. Make sure you are logged into your account. Any version works - mobile, desktop, or web.
Tap 'New Channel'
Open the menu (three lines in the top-left corner) and select 'New Channel'. On mobile devices, tap the pencil icon in the bottom-right corner, then 'New Channel'.
Set the name and description
Choose a clear channel name - it will appear in search results and when users subscribe. Add a description: explain what your channel is about and how often you will post. Upload an avatar to make the channel look professional.
Choose the channel type
A public channel is searchable in Telegram and has a permanent link like t.me/name. A private channel is accessible only via an invite link. Both types work with Crosslybot for cross-posting.
Add @crosslybot as an administrator
Open channel settings, go to Administrators, and tap Add Administrator. Search for @crosslybot and add it. Grant the bot permission to post messages - other permissions are optional. Without admin rights, the bot cannot publish posts.
Done - set up cross-posting
The channel is created and the bot is connected. Go to @crosslybot, add the channel as a source, and configure your cross-posting targets. You can send your first post right away - the bot will automatically forward it to all connected platforms.
FAQ
Should I choose a public or private channel?
Both types work for cross-posting. A public channel is better if you want to attract subscribers through Telegram search. A private channel is ideal if your content is intended for a specific audience only.
Can I rename the channel after creating it?
Yes, you can change the channel name and description at any time in settings. Renaming does not affect Crosslybot - the bot is linked to the channel ID, not the name.
Do I need subscribers for cross-posting to work?
No, cross-posting works even on a channel with zero subscribers. The bot publishes posts to connected platforms regardless of how many subscribers your Telegram channel has.
Creating a Telegram channel is the first step toward automatic cross-posting of your content to multiple platforms simultaneously. With Crosslybot, you can publish posts in Telegram, and the bot will automatically forward them to VK, Max, Zen, and other platforms while preserving formatting and media files.
Follow our step-by-step guide - creating a channel and connecting the bot takes no more than 3 minutes. Once set up, every post you make in Telegram will automatically appear on all connected platforms.
